Welcome to our Class!
In Year 5/6 we follow the motto: Work hard, Play hard! We aim to be confident, caring and courageous children who rise to the challenge. Partner work is essential in our class; being part of the team is a non-negotiable! Having a mixed class dynamic enables us to support each other, whilst being exposed to challenge. In the classroom we are part of the Highfield Farm family; always considering each other; Together we will…

In upper Key Stage 2 we believe ‘Everything is awesome,’ when you work as part of a team enabling us to prepare ourselves for the SATS, including transitioning to Secondary School. Our classroom may look formal; however, we try to include Lego in every lesson to give us reasoning opportunities, whilst maintaining high standards of learning.

Reading is essential in Year 5/6! We enjoy a shared story every day; our favourites include deep, dark, in-depth narratives. Every child is encouraged to choose a story from our library to share with you at home, so they are engrossed in a wide range of texts. We would love for you to support your child with reading. If you would like any support with reading or further advice on how to help your child, I would be more than happy to help.

Throughout the year, your child will be practising arithmetic and reasoning in Maths to prepare them for their SATs. During this time, support from you is essential, whilst considering their wellbeing. Following our class motto, we enjoy various mindfulness activities to refresh and revitalise us. This can include sports activities during PE.

Our PE days will always be on a Tuesday and Thursday. We would like your child to bring PE kit on these days or they can leave it on a Monday, to take home at the end of the week.

We encourage children to stay hydrated to support their mental health; it would be ideal id your child brings a water bottle to school every day.

Any essential information we may need to know, would be really helpful, such as if your child has prescribed medication (an asthma pump) we must have it in the classroom. A consent form for any health needs would need to be signed in the school office.

In Year 5/6 children are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal belongings but labelling their uniform would be helpful to prevent items going missing.

Together we will ...be kind, show respect and keep trying
