Local Advisory Board (LAB): Purpose and Role

Our Commitment

The Local Advisory Board (LAB) is an essential part of our school community. Board members work in collaboration with school leaders to ensure that every child receives the best possible education and that our school remains a safe, inclusive and high-achieving environment.

What is the LAB?

The LAB acts as a bridge between the school, the Trust, and the local community. It provides support and challenge to school leaders, helping to maintain high standards and strong governance.

How the LAB Works

Monitors School Health:

The LAB reviews an Insight Report that covers key areas such as academic achievement, attendance, behaviour, safeguarding, inclusion, finance, and more. A traffic light system (Red, Amber, Green) highlights strengths and areas for development.

Identifies Priorities:

Through discussion and questioning, the LAB agrees on one priority area for deeper exploration.

Supports Leadership:

LAB members work with school leaders to understand issues, investigate causes and suggest practical recommendations.

Ensures Accountability:

By asking challenging questions and reviewing progress, the LAB ensures decisions are made in the best interests of all pupils.

Areas We Explore in More Detail

  • Academic Achievement: Reading, writing, maths, phonics and early years outcomes.

  • Attendance: Attendance, including persistent absence and looking at specific pupil groups.

  • Behaviour: Suspensions and exclusions, including complaints.

  • Safeguarding: Systems and culture to keep pupils safe.

  • Inclusion: Support for all pupils.

  • Finance and Estates: Sustainable budgeting and safe learning environments.

  • Workforce: Staffing structures and skill sets, recruitment and retention and how the team are working together to deliver our school vision and values.

  • ICT: Systems and processes around our IT infrastructure.

Why is the LAB Important?

The LAB ensures that our school remains focused on what matters most: pupil success and wellbeing. By combining local knowledge with strategic oversight, the LAB helps us deliver the very best education for every child.
